Here’s a satisfying prospect: irish dance, river dance, etc - traditional uniform hairstyle of pin curls slicked back with headband.
Modern river dance no longer requires curls, but remains loyal to the headband. Like a bun to ballerina, a mullet to a red neck, a flat top to a rapper - the headband is to the irish dancer.
